Music Lessons / Adapted Music Lessons
At ADD Music Wellness, we complete an assessment to determine the most effective instruction for every participant. We offer traditional lessons and adapted lessons for students who may be too young, may not yet possess the reading or physical skills necessary, individuals who present with special needs and are looking for a music education program.
We are currently offering instruction in piano, drums, voice, guitar, saxophone, and theory for all ages and any style. Lessons incorporate practical (playing), written (theory), ear training, sight reading, and improvisation components. Preparation for RCM (Royal Conservatory of Music) standard examinations is available and there are numerous opportunities for public performances and options to take music further in educational studies.
Adapted music lessons are individually designed and altered to be success-oriented and motivating. Adaptations may range from learning songs using colours and numbers, reading music notation and studying theory, free-play and improvisation, or may include modifying the instruments or accessories themselves. Lessons are implemented to maximize the student’s strengths and abilities, while stretching their weaknesses.
Though the main goal of adapted music lessons is learning and making music, the child may also build upon other skills in the process. Adapted lessons help a student to build:
- attention to task
- hand-eye coordination
- fine and gross motor skills
- visual and auditory tracking
- abstract information processing
- accomplishment and self esteem
- an appropriate outlet for emotional expression
- appropriate sensory input or relaxation,
- creativity and musicality,
- other skills that may be cognitive or social in nature
